South West Edinburgh Community Sports Hub News

Kingsknowe Golf Club is a member club of the South West Edinburgh Community Sports Hub.  The Sports Hub is promoted by sportscotland to foster good relationships between clubs who all cater for the same age groups of young boys and girls.  Golf in particular, is a sport that youngsters can play whilst also being involved in team sports for example.  One of the latest developments is therefore good news for young members of the golf club who are interested in basketball.

There is to be a new youth basketball club for South-West Edinburgh Community. Through consultation, basketball was identified as a significant gap with extensive activity happening within schools and no pathway into a community club.

A part-time coach will be recruited in the summer through funding from Basketball Scotland and Heriot-Watt University. In the meantime, SWEBC have started recruiting players to fill the under 10 and under 12 teams. Sessions will be run w/c 20th April to w/c 22nd June 2015 at Currie Community High School and Wester Hailes Education Centre. Click here for more info on the club sessions.

The activities of SWEBC are being promoted by Active Schools (at Currie, Balerno and Wester Hailes) with registration sheets soon to be sent around to school pupils within each cluster. Any children, out-with those clusters, who would like to participate in the sessions can register online through the attached link.

We are also looking for interested individuals to volunteer as coaches at the taster sessions. So far we have acquired youth coaches from the community, Active Schools coaches and players from Heriot-Watt University Basketball Club interested in coaching. If you are also interested in participating as a coach, please click here for more information.

We have also set up a Twitter account @SWEbasketball. Please follow us on Twitter and spread the word!

Any help to get this club off the ground would be much appreciated indeed.
