CURRIE and BALERNO ROTARY CLUB
Currie and Balerno Rotary Club now hold their meetings at Kingsknowe Golf Club every Wednesday from 7pm to 8.30pm
Currie Balerno Rotary Club was formed in 1981 when its members were drawn primarily from these two areas. However membership is not restricted on geographical grounds and they now have members from many other localities. Consideration was given recently to changing the name of the Club to reflect the wider membership but the members voted to retain the Currie Balerno name with its proud history. The club is part of a worldwide voluntary organisation of 1.2 million men and women across 170 countries. They raise funds for local, national and international projects. Currently, they are lead club for the Freedom From Fistula Foundation which is training midwives in Malawi to help prevent fistula formation in mothers who have difficult births. We have secured a global grant from Rotary worth around $200,000 to aid in this programme.
Local projects include the flowers at Currie, CB News distribution, Riding for the Disabled support, Spectacle collections, Young Musician of the Year and the Rotary Youth Leadership Award scheme. We also support young athletes. International projects include ShelterBox (which sends aid to disaster areas) and the Turing Trust (which sends computers to Ghana schools).

ASSOCIATION of JAMES BRAID GOLF CLUBS
Kingsknowe is a Member of the Association of James Braid Golf Courses and as a result members of the Club have the opportunity to play the Association of James Braid Courses at an agreed discounted rate.
Started in 2009, the Association has now attracted over a hundred member clubs from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, England and one in New York.
Courses either have to have been designed by Braid or redesigned or altered by him to be eligible to join. In the course of his life he was involved in designing over 300 courses as well as being the Professional at Romford for eight years and from 1904 till his death in 1950 at Walton Heath. In addition he won the Open five times, formed the PGA with Taylor and Vardon, and is credited with inventing the ‘dogleg’.
The advantages of being a member of the Association is that the members of the clubs, can play at all the other member clubs for reduced green fee, subject to tee availability. Tee times can be arranged on request through the Pro Shop.
*Offers are subject to availability and may be withdrawn at any time at the request of the partner organisation.
We have joined up with other Courses who also celebrated their Centenary in 2008 to offer members courtesy of the courses. Please look at the 1908 Club Members list for contact details and conditions which apply to each Club. Muckhart Golf Club have just signed up.
JAMES CROFTON PROPERTY Ltd
Established in 2009, James Crofton Property Limited, has been purchasing property via intermediaries or directly from sellers out with the established market route (‘off market’).
There can be various reasons for wanting to sell a property ‘off market’, such as removing a property from an estate, change of job location, consolidation, family circumstances, current sale not going to plan etc. That said, most individuals will sell via the established market (‘on market’)with no extenuating circumstances, however it is usually the case that those wanting to sell ‘off market’ have a common desire for a solid cash offer in return for a quick sale. It should be noted that any offer made by James Crofton Property will be lower than the perceived ‘market value’ and will take into account the speed and conditions of the sale.
If you feel that on ‘off market’ sale may be appropriate for you then I would be more than happy to speak to you to ascertain if there is a common interest that we can take forward.
